- What the island is
- An island in the Ionian Sea off Greece's north-west coast. The capital is Kerkyra, and the airport is next to the town, from where most people reach resorts by taxi, transfer or rental car.
- Currency
- The euro. Bank cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants, but cash is sometimes handier in small tavernas and at beach bars.
- Sockets
- European sockets of types C and F, 230 V, 50 Hz. Chargers from Kazakhstan work without an adapter.
- Emergency
- The single emergency number 112 works in Greece. Save it and the exact address of your accommodation, and keep your phone charged on beaches and in the hills.
- Time difference
- Greece switches to summer time, so the difference changes: in winter Greece is three hours behind Kazakhstan, in summer two.
- Language
- Greek. English is widely understood in resorts, while signs and menus in villages are often only in Greek, so a translator is useful.
- Roads and transport
- Many roads to the coves are narrow with bends, so drive carefully. Buses run between the town and the main resorts, but services to remote beaches are less frequent, so check timetables in advance.
- Taxis and transfers
- Taxis are ordered through hotels, at ranks or by phone, and transfers are best booked in advance, especially in the evening and in high season. Many operators reply in messengers.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
