- Currency
- The Macedonian denar (MKD). In cities most shops, restaurants and hotels take cards, but cash is useful at markets, in small villages and in the mountains.
- Sockets
- European sockets of types C and F, 230 V, 50 Hz. Chargers from Kazakhstan work without an adapter.
- Emergency
- The single emergency number is 112. Save the address of your accommodation and, when heading to the mountains or a canyon, tell someone your route.
- Time difference
- Macedonia uses Central European Time. In winter it is 4 hours behind Kazakhstan, and in summer, when it switches to daylight saving time, 3 hours behind.
- Language
- The official language is Macedonian in Cyrillic, and Albanian is widely spoken in the west. English is spoken in tourist places, especially by younger people.
- Transport
- Buses run between cities, and within cities people usually take taxis. For trips to canyons, lakes and mountains many rent a car, so offline maps are useful. In winter check road conditions in the mountains.
- Wi-Fi
- Most hotels and cafes have Wi-Fi, but in summer it gets overloaded at the resorts. For banking apps and payments, mobile data is safer than open networks.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
