- Status
- The Azores are part of Portugal as an autonomous region. The nine main islands are scattered across the Atlantic over hundreds of kilometres, so you move between them by plane or boat.
- Currency
- The euro. Cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops, but cash is useful in small villages and on remote islands.
- Sockets
- European sockets of types C and F, 230 V, 50 Hz. Phones and chargers from Kazakhstan work, but if your plug is a different type, take an adapter.
- Emergency
- The single number is 112. Save it and your accommodation address in your phone, especially before a hike or a trip to a far part of an island.
- Time difference
- In winter the Azores are 6 hours behind Kazakhstan, in summer 5, because the region switches to summer time. Keep this in mind for flight times and calls home.
- Language
- The official language is Portuguese. English is spoken in hotels and tourist places, but in small villages it can be hard without a translator.
- Weather
- The weather changes quickly, and a single day can bring sun, rain and fog. Take a windbreaker and sturdy shoes and do not put everything into one day: spare time makes the difference.
- Transport
- A rental car is the easiest way to see an island. Planes link the islands, and some routes are served by ferries whose timetables depend on season and weather, so check them in advance.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
