- Currency
- The Hungarian forint (HUF). Cards and contactless payment are accepted in most cafes, shops and hotels, while a little cash is useful in the countryside and at markets.
- Sockets
- European sockets of types C and F, 230 V, 50 Hz. Equipment from Kazakhstan usually works without an adapter.
- Emergency
- The single emergency number 112 works across the country. Save it, and the address of your accommodation, before leaving the city.
- Time difference
- In winter Hungary is four hours behind Kazakhstan, and in summer three hours, because Hungary moves to summer time and Kazakhstan does not.
- Language
- The official language is Hungarian. English is usually understood in tourist areas of Budapest, while in small towns and villages it can be less common, so a translator comes in handy.
- Roads and vignette
- Paid motorway sections require an electronic vignette, which is bought in advance. If you rent a car, ask the rental company whether it is already arranged and buy an extension if needed.
- Transport between cities
- The main towns are linked by trains and buses. Check the timetable and platform before you leave, especially if you change at small stations.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
