About this eSIM

Jersey is an island in the English Channel close to the French coast, a Crown dependency with its own self-government. People come for the beaches, cliff paths, castles and seafood restaurants, arriving by air or by ferry from England and France. Plans for the island may be listed separately or inside regional packages, so check the plan page before you buy.

Where to buy an eSIM and SIM card for Jersey

You can buy an eSIM for Jersey online right on this page from 6 500 ₸: choose a data plan, pay by card and get the QR code within minutes. An eSIM is a digital SIM card — it installs on your phone with no plastic card and no visit to a phone shop.

The eSIM connects to local mobile networks, so you have data wherever they have coverage — St Helier and the rest of the country.

Roaming in Jersey with a Kazakh carrier is usually far more expensive, and roaming data runs out fast. With a Funsim eSIM you pay a fixed price for a data package and keep your home SIM in the phone for calls and bank SMS — roaming on it can stay off.

If your phone does not support eSIM, you can buy a regular physical SIM card with data for Jersey at a Funsim point of sale: at Almaty and Shymkent airports, or at our offices in Almaty — 130/1 Abay St and 1 Pozharsky St. Handy if you remember about the internet right before departure.

Why an eSIM works well for Jersey

The island is small, and a trip is usually built around a few days on the coast: the port of St Helier, Gorey Castle in the east, the beaches of St Ouen's Bay in the west. Tides here are big and bus and ferry timetables matter, so you want internet at hand all day. Jersey is not part of the United Kingdom and a UK plan may not work, so check coverage on the plan page.

Your main SIM stays in the phone for calls and bank SMS, and mobile data goes through the eSIM. Most plans have no calls or SMS, so it is easier to message a hotel, guide or car rental desk through a messenger. After a ferry from France or England you will not need to look for a shop selling SIM cards.

Where an eSIM helps most in Jersey

The island is small and most of it is well covered, but on empty headlands and tidal areas it is worth having offline maps ready. These are the places where you will use the internet most.

St Helier

The capital and port, where hotels, the market, shops and the bus station are concentrated. Nearby, on a rock, stands Elizabeth Castle: a paved causeway leads to it that can only be walked at low tide. You need internet for the map, tide times, bus timetables and restaurant bookings on the waterfront.

Gorey and Mont Orgueil Castle

A fishing village on the east coast with seafood restaurants by the harbour and a medieval castle on the hill. It is one of the most attractive spots for an unhurried walk. Signal here is usually good, and internet helps with tickets, a table booking and checking the bus back to St Helier.

St Ouen's Bay and Corbière

A long sandy beach in the west, popular with surfers, and the Corbière lighthouse, reached at low tide by a path over the rocks. Tides in Jersey are strong and the water returns quickly. You need internet to check the tide table and weather, and an offline map is best in case signal weakens on open headlands.

The north coast

Rocky coves such as Plémont and Bonne Nuit, cliff path walks and sea views. Roads to the coves are narrow, and in places signal can weaken in the dips. Download the map and make sure you know where to return to the bus stop before you start a route.

Durrell Wildlife Park

A wildlife park founded by the writer and naturalist Gerald Durrell, in the north of the island. Tickets and your visit time are easy to check in advance. You can get there by bus or taxi, and internet helps with timetables and ordering a ride back.

Ferries and neighbouring islands

Ferries run to Guernsey, to St-Malo in France and to ports on the south coast of England. Timetables depend on weather and tides, so check sailing status on the day you travel. On board the signal can be uneven, and out at sea the phone sometimes connects to the ship's network.

Useful apps for a trip to Jersey

There are not many special services for the island, but a few apps are best prepared before you fly.

Google Maps

Navigation

Shows routes for driving, cycling and walking, opening hours and reviews. Download an offline map of the island before you start on the cliff paths.

Liberty Bus

Buses

The operator of the island's buses. Check routes and timetables on the operator's site or app, since the bus is the main way to reach the coast without a car.

Condor Ferries

Ferries

The ferry company running sailings between the island, England, Guernsey and France. It is handy to check sailing status on the day you travel, because weather and tides affect the schedule.

Any tide app

Tides

A tide table matters on the beaches, at Elizabeth Castle and at the Corbière lighthouse, where low tide opens paths over the rocks. Any app with a tide table, Windy included, helps you avoid being cut off by the water.

Booking.com

Accommodation

Helps you book a hotel or guest house. Save the confirmation and your host's contacts in advance so they are available without a network.

WhatsApp and Telegram

Messengers

This is how you reach hosts, guides and drivers. Since most plans have no voice calls, calling through messengers is easiest.

Practical facts about Jersey

Currency
The island has its own Jersey pound, equal to the British pound sterling, and British pounds are accepted. Jersey notes are usually not accepted outside the island, so it is best to spend them before you leave.
Sockets
British-style type G sockets, 230 V, 50 Hz. Chargers from Kazakhstan need an adapter.
Emergency
The main emergency number is 999, and 112 also works. Save your accommodation address and the name of the nearest bay or village, especially before a coastal walk.
Time difference
The island keeps the same time as the United Kingdom. In winter it is five hours behind Kazakhstan: when it is noon in Astana, it is 07:00 on the island. In summer the island moves to summer time and the gap is four hours.
Language
The main language is English. Many place names sound French, and the local language Jèrriais survives in names and signs. In daily life and tourism English is enough.
Driving
Traffic drives on the left. Country roads are narrow, with hedges, and speed is limited, so drive unhurriedly. Some lanes are reserved for pedestrians and cyclists.
Entry
Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip, including for connections on the way.

How to set up your eSIM before a trip to Jersey

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier. You can find this in the settings or from the manufacturer.

  2. Open the plan page for Jersey or a suitable regional package, check the coverage and pay by card on the site. No passport is needed to buy.

  3. Install the eSIM at home by QR code, the Quick install button or manually while you still have Wi-Fi, so you do not have to look for a network at the port or airport.

  4. After arrival, choose the eSIM as your mobile data line and switch data roaming on for that line. Keep your main SIM for calls and bank SMS and turn data off on it.

  5. If the package runs out, buy extra data on the site. Most plans support hotspot mode, check the terms on the page of your chosen plan.

On the ferry, switch off data on all lines until the vessel nears shore: at sea the phone may connect to the ship's network, which usually costs more.
