About this eSIM

The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland and governs itself as a Crown dependency. People come for the TT races, coastal walks, historic railways and quiet towns. You need internet for ferry timetables, maps and bookings, and plans for the island may be listed separately or inside regional packages, so check the plan page.

Buy an eSIM or SIM card for Isle of Man

You can buy an eSIM for Isle of Man online right on this page from 6 500 ₸: choose a data plan, pay by card and get the QR code within minutes. An eSIM is a digital SIM card — it installs on your phone with no plastic card and no visit to a phone shop.

The eSIM connects to local mobile networks, so you have data wherever they have coverage — Douglas and the rest of the country.

Roaming in Isle of Man with a Kazakh carrier is usually far more expensive, and roaming data runs out fast. With a Funsim eSIM you pay a fixed price for a data package and keep your home SIM in the phone for calls and bank SMS — roaming on it can stay off.

If your phone does not support eSIM, you can buy a regular physical SIM card with data for Isle of Man at a Funsim point of sale: at Almaty and Shymkent airports, or at our offices in Almaty — 130/1 Abay St and 1 Pozharsky St. Handy if you remember about the internet right before departure.

Why an eSIM works well for the Isle of Man

On a small island a trip usually means a few days in Douglas, outings to Snaefell, west to Peel and south to Port Erin. You do not need separate internet for each leg, one profile is enough. The island is not part of the United Kingdom, so do not assume that any UK plan will work here: check coverage on the plan page and look at the regional packages as well.

Your main SIM stays in the phone for calls and bank SMS, and mobile data goes through the eSIM. Most plans have no calls or SMS, so messengers are the easiest way to contact a host, driver or car rental desk. This helps especially if you stay in a private house outside town.

Where an eSIM helps most on the Isle of Man

The island is small, and the main towns are well covered, but in the hills and on remote stretches of coast signal is less reliable. These are the places where you will use the internet most.

Douglas

The capital and main port, with a long seafront where old horse trams run and a sea terminal for ferries. Most hotels, restaurants and transport are here. You need internet to check sailings, maps, accommodation bookings and plans for trips around the island by bus or train.

Laxey and Snaefell

Laxey is home to the huge Laxey Wheel, and from here a mountain railway climbs to Snaefell, the island's highest point. Weather in the hills changes fast and visibility drops. You need internet for tickets and the forecast, and it is best to save the route map offline, since signal on the summit and slopes can be uneven.

The TT course

The TT races take place in late May and early June and draw many fans to the island. On those days some roads are closed, accommodation is booked well ahead and networks are busy. Save tickets, the road closure schedule and your address offline instead of counting on instant loading at peak crowds.

Peel

A town on the west coast with a castle on St Patrick's Isle, a beach and a reputation as a good place to watch the sunset. Its kippers and fish cafes are well known. Signal in town is usually steady, and internet helps with the map, a table booking and a taxi if you are heading back late.

Ramsey and the north

Ramsey is a base for trips to the northern tip of the island and walks across the flat northern plain. From here you can reach the Sulby valley and the Point of Ayre. The towns are well covered, but on empty stretches of shore the signal is weaker, so download the map in advance and do not rely on navigation without a network.

Castletown, Port Erin and the south

Castletown with Castle Rushen is the island's old capital, and the airport is nearby. Further south are Port Erin and Port St Mary, from where in season you can take a boat to the Calf of Man, a bird sanctuary. The Raad ny Foillan coastal path runs all the way around the island, but on lonely stretches do not count on guaranteed internet.

Useful apps for a trip to the Isle of Man

The island does not need many special services, but it is worth preparing a few apps before you fly.

Google Maps

Navigation

Shows driving and walking routes, cafe reviews and opening hours. Download an offline map of the island in advance, especially if you plan hill and coastal walks.

WhatsApp and Telegram

Messengers

Handy for contacting hosts, drivers and guides. Since most plans have no voice calls, it is easier to call through messengers.

Booking.com

Accommodation

Helps you find and book a hotel or guest house. Save your booking and your host's contacts in advance so they are at hand without a network.

Isle of Man Steam Packet

Ferries

The ferry company that runs the main sailings between the island and Great Britain. Check the timetable and sailing status on the operator's site, as weather sometimes changes plans.

Windy

Weather

Shows wind, rain and sea conditions. On an island where weather affects ferries and mountain routes, such a forecast is useful before you set off on a trail.

Practical facts about the Isle of Man

Currency
The island has its own Manx pound, equal to the British pound sterling, and British pounds are also accepted. Manx notes are usually not accepted outside the island, so it is best to spend them before you leave.
Sockets
British-style type G sockets, 230 V, 50 Hz. Chargers from Kazakhstan need an adapter.
Emergency
The main emergency number is 999, and 112 can also be dialled. Save your accommodation address and the name of the nearest village, especially before a hill walk.
Time difference
The island keeps the same time as the United Kingdom. In winter it is five hours behind Kazakhstan: when it is noon in Astana, it is 07:00 on the island. In summer the island moves to summer time and the gap is four hours.
Language
The main language is English. Manx Gaelic survives in names and signs, but in daily life and tourism people speak English.
Driving
Traffic drives on the left. Mountain and country roads can be narrow and winding, and on race days some roads are closed. Plan detours in advance and keep navigation working online or offline.
Entry
Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip, including for connections on the way.

How to set up your eSIM before a trip to the Isle of Man

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier. You can find this in the settings or from the manufacturer.

  2. Open the plan page for the Isle of Man or a suitable regional package, check the coverage and pay by card on the site. No passport is needed to buy.

  3. Install the eSIM at home by QR code, the Quick install button or manually while you still have Wi-Fi, so you do not have to look for a network at the port or airport.

  4. After arrival, choose the eSIM as your mobile data line and switch data roaming on for that line. Keep your main SIM for calls and bank SMS and turn data off on it.

  5. If the package runs out, buy extra data on the site. Most plans support hotspot mode, check the terms on the page of your chosen plan.

On the ferry, switch off data on all lines until the vessel nears shore: at sea the phone may connect to the ship's network, which usually costs more.
