- Currency
- The Kuwaiti dinar (KWD). Bank cards are accepted in hotels, malls and restaurants, but cash is useful in markets and small venues.
- Sockets
- Type G sockets are usually used, sometimes C, 240 V, 50 Hz. Plugs from Kazakhstan may need an adapter.
- Emergency
- The single emergency number is 112. Save it and your accommodation address, and when heading into the desert send relatives a map pin.
- Time difference
- Kuwait is two hours behind Kazakhstan: when it is noon in Astana, it is 10:00 in Kuwait City. There is no daylight saving time.
- Language
- The official language is Arabic, and English is widespread in hotels, shops and services. Signs are often repeated in English, and in markets a translator can come in handy.
- Weekend
- The working week in the country ends on Friday and Saturday, and the opening hours of some venues on these days may differ. Check the schedule before visiting institutions and mosques.
- Heat
- Summer days are very hot, so it is easier to plan walks for the morning and evening. Take water and keep your phone in the shade, because it overheats in the sun.
- Etiquette
- Alcohol is prohibited in the country, and modest dress is expected in mosques and public places. Read up on the local rules before the trip so you do not end up in an awkward situation.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
