About this eSIM

Tunisia is not only a beach holiday: from the resort people go to the capital, to the Roman amphitheatre at El Djem, to holy Kairouan or north to the sea. Trips run by taxi, shared taxis called louages and transfers, and flexible plans are easy to make on the fly. You install the eSIM at home in advance, and after landing you only switch data on without looking for a point of sale at the airport.

Buy an eSIM or SIM card for Tunisia

This page is the quickest way to buy a travel eSIM for Tunisia from 4 500 ₸. Pick a plan, pay online and install the digital SIM card at home before the flight — no passport and no queue at an airport kiosk.

The eSIM connects to local mobile networks, so you have data wherever they have coverage across Tunisia.

Compared with roaming in Tunisia, an eSIM is usually much cheaper for mobile data: the price of the package is fixed and known in advance. Your home number stays active on the main SIM for calls and SMS.

If your phone does not support eSIM, you can buy a regular physical SIM card with data for Tunisia at a Funsim point of sale: at Almaty and Shymkent airports, or at our offices in Almaty — 130/1 Abay St and 1 Pozharsky St. Handy if you remember about the internet right before departure.

Why an eSIM works well for Tunisia

The country stretches along the coast, and one trip easily covers several towns: you land at one airport, stay in another town and take excursions along the way. One profile for the whole country spares you hunting for signal at each stage. The Tunisia plan is listed above, and if your route includes neighbouring North African countries, look at the regional plans.

Your main SIM stays in the phone for calls and bank SMS, while mobile data goes through the eSIM. Most plans have no voice calls or SMS, so WhatsApp is handy for talking to drivers, guides and hosts. That is especially practical when you arrange an airport transfer or a meeting at the hotel.

Where an eSIM helps most in Tunisia

Towns and the coast are covered better than inland areas and the south. These are the places and routes where you will use mobile data most, and coverage is worth checking on the plan page.

Enfidha and Monastir airports

Many resort flights land at Enfidha or Monastir, and you go to the hotel by transfer or taxi. You need internet to message the driver on WhatsApp, check the hotel address and report a delayed flight. Night arrivals benefit most when you already have a connection in the arrivals hall.

Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said

The capital, the ruins of Carthage and the white hilltop town with blue shutters make up one day route. You need internet for maps, taxis and museum tickets. Between the sights it is easy to move by taxi or the suburban train, and to check the timetable in an app.

Port El Kantaoui and Monastir

Calmer resorts next to Sousse: a marina with yachts, the Bourguiba Mausoleum and the old ribat fortress. Internet helps here for ordering taxis, booking tables and checking excursion times. On seafronts and in cafes Wi-Fi can be busy in season, so your own data is more reliable.

El Djem

A Roman amphitheatre in a small town, usually reached as a half-day trip from the resorts. You need internet for tickets, maps and contact with your driver. There is no big city nearby, so download a map beforehand and confirm the return time so you are not stuck in the heat.

Kairouan

A holy city with the Great Mosque and the narrow streets of the medina, most often visited as an excursion. A map, translator and messenger are handy for agreeing a meeting time with your guide. In the narrow lanes navigation can be imprecise, so save landmarks.

Nabeul and Cap Bon

A pottery town and a peninsula of fishing villages and beaches north-east of the capital. Many people come from Hammamet for ceramics and fresh fish. The coast usually has steady signal, but deeper in the peninsula and on rural roads it is worth saving the map in advance.

Tabarka and the north

A wooded coast near the Algerian border with beaches, coral waters and an old Genoese fort. People get here by car or taxi, so internet is used for navigation and booking accommodation. In the hills and forests the signal may briefly drop.

Matmata and Tataouine

Southern areas with troglodyte houses, sandy landscapes and Berber fortified granaries called ksour. Roads are long, settlements are few and signal on the highways can be weaker. Download an offline map, fill up with fuel early and tell your hosts your approximate arrival time.

Useful apps for a trip to Tunisia

Familiar services work as at home. These are the apps that travellers need most.

Bolt

Taxi

A ride-hailing service in the capital and larger towns. The price is shown before the ride, which is handy if you would rather not haggle. Install it in advance and check that the sign-up confirmation reaches your main number.

Yassir

Taxi

An African service that also works in Tunisia: taxi and delivery in one app. Useful as a second option if Bolt takes long to find a car.

Glovo

Delivery

Food and grocery delivery in larger towns. Handy if you return late to the hotel and do not want to look for an open cafe. It is better to add a landmark to the address.

Google Maps

Navigation

Shows driving and walking routes, reviews and opening hours. Download offline maps of the areas you plan to visit, especially for the inland regions and the south.

Google Translate

Translation

Signs are often in Arabic and French. Download both languages for offline use and translate signs and menus with the camera.

WhatsApp

Messenger

This is how you reach transfer drivers, guides and hosts. Since most plans have no voice calls, calling through a messenger is the easiest option.

Booking

Accommodation

For finding hotels and guesthouses in different towns. Save the booking confirmation and address in your notes so you can show them to a driver.

Practical facts about Tunisia

Currency
The Tunisian dinar (TND). Hotels and larger shops take cards, but cash is useful at markets, in small cafes and in taxis. Change money at banks or exchange offices.
Sockets
European sockets of types C and E, 230 V, 50 Hz. Phones and chargers from Kazakhstan usually need no adapter.
Emergency
Save your hotel's address and phone number, and ask at reception for the emergency numbers. On trips around the country keep your accommodation address in Arabic or French.
Time difference
Tunisia is 4 hours behind Kazakhstan: when it is 15:00 in Astana, it is 11:00 in Tunis. The country does not switch to summer time.
Language
The official language is Arabic, French is widely used, and in resort areas people speak English and often Russian. Signs are easier to read with a translator.
Transport
Trains, buses and shared taxis called louages run between cities, and louages leave when full. For excursions people often hire a car with a driver, and it is best to agree terms and the return time in advance.
Wi-Fi
Hotels and cafes usually have Wi-Fi, but quality varies. For banking apps and payments mobile data is safer than open networks.
Heat and water
In summer excursions can be very hot. Take water, a hat and a charged phone, and plan the return from long trips before sunset.
Entry
Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.

How to set up your eSIM before a trip to Tunisia

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a specific carrier. This is listed in the settings or on the manufacturer's website.

  2. Choose a Tunisia plan above and pay by card on the site. No passport is needed. If you are also visiting other countries, look at the regional plans.

  3. Install the eSIM at home while you have Wi-Fi: scan the QR code, press the Quick install button or enter the details manually.

  4. After landing, choose the eSIM as your mobile data line and switch data roaming on for that line.

  5. Keep your main SIM for calls and bank SMS, but turn off mobile data on it so traffic does not go through roaming.

  6. If the package runs out, buy extra data on the site. Most plans support hotspot mode, check the terms on the plan page.

Before a long excursion, download an offline map and send your driver or guide the meeting pin on WhatsApp while the signal is steady.
