- Currency
- Turkish lira (TRY). Cash is useful for small purchases, markets and tips, while hotels, shopping malls and most restaurants more often accept cards.
- Sockets and voltage
- European-type sockets (C and F), 230 V, 50 Hz. A simple adapter is usually enough if your plug is different.
- Emergency number
- The single emergency number is 112. It works across the country, and operators can connect you to the service you need.
- Time difference
- Turkey is on UTC+3 all year and Kazakhstan on UTC+5, so Kazakhstan is two hours ahead of Turkey. Turkey does not switch to daylight saving time.
- Language
- The official language is Turkish. In tourist areas, hotels and restaurants people often speak English, and outside resorts a translator can come in handy.
- Payments
- Contactless cards and phone payments are widespread in cities and resorts. A small reserve of cash is still useful for markets, minibuses and small places.
- Wi-Fi
- Free Wi-Fi is available at airports, hotels and cafes, but often requires registration and the speed can be unstable. Do not enter payment details on open networks.
- Water and tipping
- Tourists are usually advised not to drink tap water and to buy bottled water instead. In restaurants it is customary to leave a tip, usually around 10 percent, if service is not already included in the bill.
- Connectivity and SIM
- It is easier to arrange travel data before departure. If your phone is carrier-locked or does not support eSIM, it is better to find that out at home rather than at the departure airport.
