- Currency
- The Jordanian dinar (JOD). Cards are accepted in hotels, larger restaurants and shops, but small stalls, camps and taxis often need cash.
- Sockets
- European sockets of types C and F are the most common, sometimes G, 230 V, 50 Hz. A universal adapter is a sensible precaution.
- Emergency
- Save your hotel's address and phone and the tour organiser's contacts in your phone. In remote places it helps to send relatives a map pin and the name of the nearest village in advance.
- Time difference
- Jordan is two hours behind Kazakhstan: when it is noon in Astana, it is 10:00 in Amman. The country does not use daylight saving time.
- Language
- The official language is Arabic, and English is widely used in tourism. Road signs and many shop signs are repeated in English, so it is usually easy to find your way by map.
- Weather and wadis
- Summer days are hot, and winters in the mountains and around Petra can be cool and rainy. After rain, flash floods are possible in canyons and dry riverbeds, so check conditions with the organiser before a route.
- Transport
- Buses, transfers and rental cars run between cities. Distances on the Kings Highway and in the desert are large, so check fuel stops and journey times in advance.
- Ramadan
- During Ramadan the opening hours of cafes, shops and some sites can change. Check schedules in advance and respect local etiquette in public places.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
