About this eSIM

Belarus is usually chosen for business trips, short city breaks and routes by train or car: Minsk, Brest, Grodno, the castles at Mir and Nesvizh, the lakes around Naroch. Navigation, taxis and work email are needed right after landing, and Minsk National Airport sits outside the city, so a connection helps even on the way into the centre. You install the eSIM at home in advance and on arrival you only switch data on for its line.

Where to buy an eSIM and SIM card for Belarus

You can buy an eSIM for Belarus online right on this page from 4 500 ₸: choose a data plan, pay by card and get the QR code within minutes. An eSIM is a digital SIM card — it installs on your phone with no plastic card and no visit to a phone shop.

The eSIM connects to local mobile networks, so you have data wherever they have coverage — Minsk and the rest of the country.

Roaming in Belarus with a Kazakh carrier is usually far more expensive, and roaming data runs out fast. With a Funsim eSIM you pay a fixed price for a data package and keep your home SIM in the phone for calls and bank SMS — roaming on it can stay off.

If your phone does not support eSIM, you can buy a regular physical SIM card with data for Belarus at a Funsim point of sale: at Almaty and Shymkent airports, or at our offices in Almaty — 130/1 Abay St and 1 Pozharsky St. Handy if you remember about the internet right before departure.

Why an eSIM suits Belarus

The country is compact and a route is easy to build from several stops: the capital, then Brest in the west, Grodno in the north-west or a castle circuit around Mir and Nesvizh. You do not need separate internet for each city, one profile covers the whole trip. See the Belarus plans above, and if your route continues to neighbouring countries, check the regional plans.

Your main SIM stays in the phone for calls and bank SMS while mobile data goes through the eSIM. Most plans have no voice calls or SMS, so messengers are the easiest way to talk to partners, hosts and drivers. For a business trip this is often more practical anyway: you can forward a meeting address or documents straight away.

Where an eSIM helps most in Belarus

Cities and main roads are covered evenly, while forest reserves and minor roads are less predictable. These are the places and routes where you will use the internet most.

Minsk

The capital, around which most trips are built: the metro and surface transport, taxis, cafes, restaurant bookings, tickets for theatres and exhibitions. On a business trip you need the internet to navigate between offices, for work chats and online meetings. For video calls from a hotel or cafe it is usually easier to have your own mobile data than to rely on shared Wi-Fi.

Minsk National Airport

The airport is roughly 40 kilometres from the city, and the ride into the centre takes about an hour. It is handy to switch on data in the arrivals hall, order a taxi or check your transfer. If the flight is delayed, you can warn your host or the people meeting you straight away without looking for Wi-Fi.

Brest and the fortress

The western gateway of the country and a popular stop on the way to or from Poland. The Brest Fortress memorial complex takes several hours to see, and a map with museum opening hours helps on site. Near the border a phone sometimes briefly joins a network of the neighbouring country, so check that data is switched on for the eSIM line specifically.

Belovezhskaya Pushcha

A national park on the border with Poland and one of the largest stretches of ancient lowland forest in Europe. Signal is usually available at the visitor centre and in the village of Kamenyuki, but on forest routes it can weaken or disappear. Download an offline map and save your guide's contact beforehand, and use the internet for schedules and for reaching your driver.

Grodno

A town on the Neman with a compact old centre and good pedestrian streets, close to the borders with Poland and Lithuania. Here the phone is used for maps, taxis and finding cafes. If you plan evening walks along the embankment, the internet makes it easier to find an open place and the way back to the hotel.

Mir and Nesvizh castles

Two UNESCO World Heritage sites an hour or two from Minsk, usually seen in one day by car or on a tour. The towns are small and signal there is normally fine, but the road between them runs through countryside. Save an offline map and keep the internet for tickets, schedules and contact with your driver.

Lake Naroch and the Braslav lakes

Lake districts in the north of the country where people go for weekends: cycling, boats, cottages by the water. Signal in the villages is usually fine and weaker on forest roads and away from them. If you cycle, download an offline map and keep the internet for weather forecasts and bookings.

Gomel and Vitebsk

Regional centres in the east and north-east reached by train or bus from Minsk, usually for work or a weekend. Networks in the cities work without surprises, but on long stretches the train can lose signal. It is better to check tickets and timetables before you leave while the connection in town is steady.

Useful apps for a trip to Belarus

Some services will be familiar from trips to neighbouring countries, others are specific to Belarus. Install what you need in advance and log in at home.

Yandex Go

Taxi

One of the familiar ways to order a taxi in Minsk and other large cities: the price is shown before the ride and you do not have to explain the address. Install the app in advance and check that the confirmation code reaches your main SIM.

Google Maps

Navigation

Good for driving, walking and public transport routes, and shows opening hours of cafes and museums. Download an offline map of the region before heading to the pushcha or the lakes.

Telegram and WhatsApp

Messengers

The main way to reach partners, guides and hosts, especially if your plan has no voice calls. They are handy for forwarding addresses, documents and your location.

Viber

Messenger

Many local companies and private landlords communicate there. Install it just in case, so you do not have to look for another way to get in touch if the other person does not use Telegram.

Booking

Accommodation

Used for booking hotels and apartments in Minsk and other cities, and it stores the address and your host's contact. Download confirmations in advance and keep them available offline in case of weak signal.

Bank app

Payments

Before the trip ask your bank how your cards work abroad and check that the app logs in over the eSIM. Transaction confirmations may arrive by SMS on your main SIM, so keep it switched on.

Practical facts about Belarus

Currency
The Belarusian rouble (BYN). Ask your own bank in advance whether your cards will work in the country, and take part of your spending in cash. You can exchange money in banks and exchange offices.
Sockets
European sockets of types C and F, 230 V, 50 Hz. Phones and chargers from Kazakhstan normally work without an adapter.
Emergency
The single emergency number is 112. Save your accommodation address and the name of the nearest village if you head to forest areas or lakes.
Time difference
Belarus is two hours behind Kazakhstan: when it is noon in Astana, it is 10:00 in Minsk. The country does not switch to summer time.
Language
The official languages are Belarusian and Russian, and Russian is what you hear everywhere day to day. Signs are often in Belarusian but easy to follow, and English is common in tourist places.
Transport
Trains and buses link Minsk, Brest, Grodno and other cities, and it is best to check timetables and seat availability in advance. Minsk has a metro, and taxis are handy from the airport and between districts.
Wi-Fi
Hotels and cafes usually have free Wi-Fi, but for banking apps and payments mobile data is safer. On trains and at stations speeds can be unstable.
Entry
Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.

How to set up your eSIM before a trip to Belarus

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier. You can find this in the settings or on the manufacturer's website.

  2. Choose a Belarus plan above and pay by card on the site, no passport is needed. If you are continuing to neighbouring countries, look at the regional plans.

  3. Install the eSIM at home by QR code, the Quick install button or manually while you still have Wi-Fi. That way you will not have to look for internet at the airport.

  4. After landing in Minsk, choose the eSIM as your mobile data line and switch data roaming on for that line.

  5. Keep your main SIM on for calls and bank SMS, but turn off mobile data on it so traffic does not go through roaming.

  6. If the package runs out, buy extra data on the site. You can use the hotspot for a laptop on plans that allow it, check the plan page for details.

Before heading to Belovezhskaya Pushcha or the lakes, download an offline map and save your accommodation address in your notes: signal can drop on forest roads.
