- Before you go
- Check current travel advisories and entry rules before the trip, and also the insurance terms for the regions you choose.
- Currency
- The Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH). Bank cards are widely accepted in cities, but a small amount of cash is useful at markets, in small towns and on transport.
- Sockets
- European sockets of types C and F, 230 V, 50 Hz. Phones and chargers from Kazakhstan work without an adapter.
- Emergency
- The single emergency number is 112. Save your accommodation address and mark nearby landmarks in your maps app to describe your location more precisely.
- Time difference
- Ukraine is 3 hours behind Kazakhstan in winter and 2 hours behind in summer, because the country switches to summer time and Kazakhstan does not.
- Language
- The official language is Ukrainian. Many people also understand Russian, and in tourist places English is often spoken. Signs and menus are easy to read with a translator.
- Transport
- Trains and buses run between cities, and larger cities have metro, buses, trams and taxis. It is best to check schedules and fares in advance.
- Wi-Fi
- Hotels and cafes usually have free Wi-Fi, but for banking apps and payments mobile data is safer than open networks.
- Entry
- Check current entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan before the trip.
